It is some forty years since Christian Science was brought to my notice in a time of great need. I was greatly impressed by what I heard of its healing power, and very soon afterward Science and Health was brought to me by a woman who had received wonderful healing results from its teachings. Through the reading of this book I was healed very quickly of insomnia of five years' standing. It just disappeared, and I began to sleep naturally. I had attended three London hospitals in search of healing and was told that I had nervous exhaustion.
After I began to study Christian Science, my life began at once to take on a new meaning. How wonderful it was to learn that God is Love and never punishes man; that His laws are spiritual, always blessing His creation; that in reality we are children of God; and that it is ignorance of our relationship to God which causes trouble! I was healed at once of the desire for social drinking and smoking. I knew instinctively that they could not mix with Christian Science. Depression gave way to joy, and I began to feel stronger and more confident. I lost the fear of being penalized for carrying out my duties. The Apostle Paul says, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12:2), and this transformation has been my experience during the years, enabling me to lead a happy, useful, and active life.
One evening my daughter of about nine years of age was taken ill with sickness accompanied by distressing symptoms. I told the child not to believe the illness was real but to turn her thought to God and thank Him for all good. She was very receptive and began to read the textbook herself. Almost immediately she experienced a wonderful sense of harmony and exaltation and could talk of nothing but her great happiness. The discordant condition had completely vanished.
