Testimonies of Healing

From the September 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

During the mid-1950's, I was still in the Army Reserve. In a required physical examination the physician informed me of a growth in the nasal passages, remarking that it was a matter of minor surgery to have it removed. I thanked him for the information and told him I would take care of it. This, to me, meant that I would handle it metaphysically through prayer as we are taught to do in Christian Science.

I did prayerful work intermittently. However, since I was serving as regular soloist in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, at that time, I was often aware of this growth as I sang. One Sunday morning, while sitting in church prior to the service, I noted the words lettered on the front wall — words I had so often read and considered: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). I prayerfully contemplated them at that moment and related them to what Christian Science teaches. I knew that God is our Father-Mother, that I was one of His children, cared for and loved by Him, that He had created me in His image and likeness and knew only the perfect man, and that I was His perfect reflection. I realized that no belief in an abnormal growth could attach itself to me, God's idea, that He never had inflicted me with anything untoward, but was a good God, bestowing His blessing upon me forever.

I claimed these truths as specifically relating to me, knowing I possessed and expressed Godlike qualities by reflection. As this prayer continued, I became aware that mental surgery was taking place, and the growth was entirely removed without material means or methods. This took place in the mid-1950's and has been permanent.
