For thirty years Christian Science has been my only physician. Through all these years I have enjoyed excellent health. Before coming into Christian Science, I had taken medicines and had been confined to a hospital twice.
There have been many other proofs of God's ever-present love and nearness in my experience. I am grateful for all of them.
On April 1, 1946, when a tidal wave hit the Hawaiian Islands, our home on a beach was torn from its foundation and tossed several feet to the rear. At the time the disaster struck I was not at home but on duty, alone, at a trans-Pacific radio station some three miles distant, but my wife was able to run to safety on a higher elevation of land nearby. I earnestly prayed for the safety of my loved one at home, for the station, and for myself. The Lord's Prayer and the twenty-third Psalm, which I recited from memory, were particularly comforting. There was no damage to the station proper and no hurt to me. Shortly after, I heard that my wife was safe.
