I was first introduced to Christian Science many years ago. About 1927, I hurt my back in a fall, apparently dislocating some vertebrae. It was quite painful, without letup. I lost appetite and sleep, and before long became thin and weak.
I went to a chiropractor for relief. After several months of treatment, without much improvement, he said he could do no more for me, and recommended that I try Christian Science to change my thinking. His wife was a member of the local Christian Science Society, and he attended services with her occasionally and was interested. He gave me several copies of the Christian Science Sentinel to read and explained something about this religion which aroused my hope and interest. Soon I borrowed a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy from the public library. Before long I bought my own copy and read quite steadily and eagerly for several weeks.
The pain in my back disappeared at this time, and I continued to improve, regaining my appetite and eating everything I liked without fear of reaction from a finicky stomach. I began attending services, and later on was accepted for membership in the local Christian Science Society and The Mother Church in Boston.
