THE SUMMIT

From the August 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It stands firm
as a rock of Truth,
bathed in the light of beauty and holiness;
as a symbol
of firmness, constancy, and care:
as a monument
to be viewed, approached, and scaled.

We viewed the panorama
from afar,
bowed our heads
as the truth dawned
in thought,
the thought which unfolds
in action,
as we take
the first steps,
to reach the foot
to begin the ascent.

Each step of the ascent
is sweet
with blessings which grow
sweeter
as we labor
to ward off the thorns
en route to the summit
from where we may behold
the clarity
of the truth of God
in all its
beauty,
grandeur,
and sublimity.
