I have been most grateful for the many testimonies on childbirth that have appeared in the Christian Science periodicals and that have told the many different ways in which this experience can be worked out. Our family, too, has proved that God's law of harmony can nullify material verdicts of inharmony.
Because of last-minute complications, our first child was born by cesarean section. The attending physician said any future births would also have to be by this method or the results could be fatal. It was thus with a great deal of prayer that my husband and I approached the birth of our second child a few years later. As lifelong Christian Scientists we have seen too many proofs of God's healing power to believe that any inharmonious condition could be "incurable."
We found an obstetrician who had witnessed healings through Christian Science in several instances of difficult childbirth. He agreed to consider the possibility of a normal delivery, but after reading the former doctor's medical report on the first birth, he later decided only a cesarean would be safe. The date for the operation was set, and I felt much disappointment, self-condemnation, and anxiety that I would have to go through the same discomforting experience again. On the other hand, whenever I thought about the possibility of having a normal childbirth, I was filled with a great fear of danger.
