The friend who invited me to my first Christian Science lecture did not speak of bodily healing, although she knew my need for it. She only said, "I thought you'd like to come out and learn about God." I had no idea I so longed to know Him. Presently I said, "I'd love to." I was flooded with feelings of anticipation.
That night I went to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, to hear the lecture. On the wall above the rostrum was this verse from the Psalms (77:13): "Who is so great a God as our God?" I thought about that a long time. Did these people have a different God than I as a Congregationalist? No, but there must be a greater concept of Him than I had. In that auditorium I found that greater concept of God, never again to let go of His omnipresent hand.
The next day I bought my copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and in the second chapter, "Atonement and Eucharist," I found my beloved Master, Christ Jesus. Oh, I thought, how this woman loved him! Who ever understood him as she did? She transported me across the centuries and made me love him as never before.
