I have been a student of Christian Science since I was six years of age and have had many proofs of God's care. When I was around ten, I had fainting spells. The first time this happened, my father carried me to my bed. As I awoke I heard my mother repeating to me a paragraph from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Part of it reads (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Very receptive to this truth, I arose immediately, feeling fine.
The second time this occurred, a Christian Science practitioner was called for help. I was asked to sing a hymn of my choice whenever I felt I was going to faint. My mother told me that if I desired help with this tendency to faint I must be obedient to the practitioner's instructions. At first I only got through one line of a hymn, but after about a year I suddenly realized I was singing the entire hymn through and not fainting. The one I worked with the most was Mrs. Eddy's hymn entitled "'Feed My Sheep.'" The first verse ends (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 304),
I will listen for Thy voice,
Lest my footsteps stray;
I will follow and rejoice
All the rugged way.
