Recognizing a Healing

From the August 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Healings in Christian Science are often instantaneous. When the truth of God's love for man comes to human consciousness with illuminating clarity, healing follows immediately.

Some healings appear imperceptibly. The desire to understand Truth and Love becomes so inspiring that the disease or discord is forgotten until one day we realize it has been gone for some time.

Other healings are gradual. Many supplementary improvements may occur during the prayerful efforts to gain dominion over a stubborn difficulty. As our study of Christian Science progresses, peace pervades experience. Health, supply, and human relationships improve generally, but perhaps the healing most desired still seems a distance away. Even when progress seems slow, if Christian Science treatment is given thoroughly and consistently, changes are occurring. Gratitude for whatever spiritual progress we can recognize helps in discerning the healing.
