The 1979 Normal class

The Normal class of the Board of Education was held early in December. In compliance with the By-Law, Article XXX, Section 1, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, this class convenes on the first Wednesday of December in each third year.

The teacher of the 1979 class was Maria Soubier, C. S. B., of Chicago, Illinois, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science. Before devoting her full time to the healing work, Mrs. Soubier obtained her B.A. degree from Mississippi University for Women, where she later taught English. Her master's degree was awarded to her at Columbia University in New York City. She had wide experience in writing and working in radio and television, and served ably as moderator on Christian Science television programs. She has been active in many capacities in branch church work, including service on the executive board and a term as Second Reader.

The class was composed of thirty students,See Man.,Art.XXVI,Sect.4 who will provide new teachers for Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, the Federal Republic of Germany, Uruguay, as well as the District of Columbia and the following states: Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Washington.
