Ending the end concept

From the February 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is said that neutrino beams are capable of going through the center of the earth, through what was long thought to be impenetrably dense matter. Is it too soon to talk about penetrating that densest of all human beliefs, death?

We human beings—most of us, anyway—sometimes feel inadequate even to maintain finite life. Perhaps that is because we know all finite things must ultimately come to an end. The fact is, however, that man is not a finite mortal but the expression of Spirit, the one eternal Life, which perpetuates itself.

It is only because the eternal continuity of Life is already the established truth that we can demonstrate it. How do we pursue this goal? By seeing through death's "drear subtlety" (in Mrs. Eddy's phrase). By seeking to put an end to all finite concepts in our consciousness, and by awakening to the eternal concepts within.
