The young woman had been healed and comforted by Christian Science. Her concept of Church was God's communication to her and her love for God. So why, she asked herself, get involved in church organization? On the other hand, perhaps some needed the organized church. Was she being selfish in not supporting it?
If everyone were as ambivalent about it as this young woman, there might not be any organized church. This thought left a sense of sadness and loss. Why? Because she recalled the comfort of church services. Though she had wept through the opening hymn at each service for months, she had never had to weep through the closing one. She always returned home strengthened, inspired—feeling she had been well loved.
It occurred to her that because of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, which governs the Church and its branches, she had faith that each Sunday and Wednesday the services would be held in conformity with Manual provisions. She had come to appreciate Mrs. Eddy's wisdom in designating the Bible and the textbook, Science and Health, as our impersonal pastor. She knew the impersonal pastor had brought the truths that had healed her—strengthened, comforted, inspired, and enlightened her.
