Getting to our feet

From the May 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some time ago I went for a walk with a little girl who was in her first year at school. The child was eager to take part in her class, but she was very shy. With a puzzled look she said: "You know, Auntie, I'm really very scared. But when the teacher asks who will recite, I find I have my hand up!"

Our desire to reach a worthy goal must be greater than the fear that would hold us back. Right desire is prayer. If we keep our eye on our goal and work toward it, victory is assured. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health, "The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it."Science and Health, p. 426;

When Christ Jesus saw the man lying by the pool of Bethesda, he asked him, "Wilt thou be made whole?" The man was obsessed with his repeated failure to achieve his goal, but the Master called for action: "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." And the man was healed.See John 5: 1-9;
