And then the exultation

Luke 7: 36-48

From the April 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I never felt an exultation;
never any day in all my life
did I feel lifted
higher than the daily round.
Selling what men wanted for a price,
I was not really living,
but moved unstirred, earthbound.
Then I heard of Jesus,
called the Christ,
preaching God the Father,
and himself the Son—
preaching God's forgiveness
as meant for everyone.
I longed to know of higher ways,
yearned to see if what he taught
could bring a lifting to my days.
I went to Simon's house
because this man was there—
and in his presence
felt compassion's touch.

Now, soaring in Spirit,
lifted past my yesterdays—
I am newly born, exultant—
humbled much!
