The guidance and love of my mother, Sunday School teachers, and Christian Science practitioners provided a firm spiritual foundation to build on while I was growing up. But it was not until I had reached adulthood and had children of my own that I truly realized Christian Science is not a religion one inherits; it is the means to expressing Life fully, which can be progressively demonstrated through individual effort.
Class instruction in Science shored up this foundation, providing an understanding of divine Principle, God. And working on various committees in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist (including teaching Sunday School), was and continues to be a great training ground for practically applying this understanding. Relying on God alone to meet our needs, our family has been greatly blessed.
So-called childhood diseases were few and always quickly healed. Our younger son, when just a toddler, had a quick healing of mumps. One morning at breakfast he was unable to eat because he was uncomfortable and crying, so I put him back into his crib and called a Christian Science practitioner for help.
