Angels sing, shout, whisper

From the December 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Usually when the word is heard
One pictures ethereal beings
Who startled wakeful shepherds
And sent them on their Soul-search
To Bethlehem.

Please note other heavenly hosts
Playing out their appointed roles
As the earth-moving drama
Unfolded/unfolds onward
To Bethlehem.

Recall great angel Gabriel
Greeting with grace the young Mary,
"Hail, thou that art highly favoured.''
And she followed, humbly,
To Bethlehem.

See that angel of the Lord
Assuring strong, stalwart Joseph
Of Mary's true purity.
Gently guiding him homeward
To Bethlehem.

Angels spoke to the Magi too.
(A star serving as angel voice,
God's thoughts reaching wise men.)
Eastern radiance, leading
To Bethlehem.

Down through the ages
Angels sing, shout, whisper,
Urging all mankind to turn
In search of the dear Christ
To Bethlehem.

May we ever hearken
For the herald angels,
And hearing, follow—
Follow with faith
Forever forward
To Bethlehem.

If we stray/lose our way
On some earthly road,
A Christmas angel can
(Anytime anyplace)
Turn faltered footsteps fast
To Bethlehem.
