Some have thought that the Christian call to peacemaking is perhaps little more than an idealistic noninvolvement in the actual events of our world—a kind of spiritual naivete. But clearly nothing could be further from the truth. As the life of Christ Jesus demonstrated, the Christian peacemaker is always standing on the front lines of whatever the particular challenge to humanity may be. The true peacemaker is never hiding out in an ivory tower or removed from the real demands of meeting evil head on, facing down the lie of aggression, and bringing the sword of Truth and the love of God directly into the "enemy camp."
The weapons of the peacemaker, however, are not destructive weapons—that is, not destructive of anything truly good. They do in fact eliminate sin, evil, error, and a false peace in materialism. There is no displacement of any of God's children. The innocent are not caught in a cross fire.
We can take as our keynote here the Apostle Paul's words on such weaponry. He writes: "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."II Cor. 10:3-5. ...
