Reading Rooms and Lectures—Meeting the Public Demand

On Tuesday afternoon, Boston participants had the apportunity to explore the purpose of Reading Rooms and lectures—and to think about the ways these two activities can work together to meet a growing public demand for spiritual answers. Following is a portion of the panel discussion, moderated by , a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, from San Clemente, California. Her guests were two Reading Room librarians: , of Jacksonville, Florida, and , from Guilford, Connecticut; and two lecture committee chairs: also of Jacksonville, and also from Connecticut.

Jeanette Smith: Mary Baker Eddy gave us the tools for responding to the public in the Manual, Christian Science Reading Rooms and Christian Science lectures. We have the tools, and we have a couple questions to ask ourselves. Are we willing to respond? Are we ready to respond?
