When I went to an eye doctor for new glasses, he examined my eyes and told me I had strong evidence of a degenerative eye disease. He recommended medical treatment in hopes of preventing a gradual loss of vision. I replied that I was grateful he’d brought the problem to my attention, but I would treat it with Christian Science, which I have relied on for healing all my life.
On the drive home, I felt confident and joyful that I could trust God to heal me. Because disease is a false mental suggestion, not a fact, I knew that my first step in overcoming this problem was to firmly deny the belief that my experience had to include poor vision. I prayed out loud, “I am so grateful to my heavenly Father that He did not create disease and does not know it. God knows only His own infinite goodness, and there is no power or presence opposed to good.”
Despite what the physical senses tell us, Christian Science shows that disease is an illusion that has no power to interfere with the real, spiritual senses or life of man as God’s perfect reflection. God does not cause disability, and we can prove this by understanding that man’s capabilities are based in divine Spirit and are forever intact.
