Who will be my teacher?

From the June 2022 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Gratitude overflows to my grandparents and an aunt who accepted Christian Science as their way of life soon after Mary Baker Eddy founded The Church of Christ, Scientist. My relatives were present when Mrs. Eddy gave a well-known address to a crowd from the balcony of her Pleasant View home. Much later, my parents, also students of Christian Science, provided a healthy, harmonious home for my brother and me. We attended Christian Science Sunday School, while our parents were branch church members.

After graduating from college, I realized I wanted to teach Sunday School. Before pursuing this, I felt inspired to have Christian Science Primary class instruction. While prayerfully listening for guidance in finding a Christian Science teacher, I often referred to a quote from Mary Baker Eddy: “The divine Spirit supplies all human needs” (No and Yes, p. 42).

A friend mentioned the name of her teacher, and I felt ready to call her. What an inspiring experience to meet her and learn of her loving expectation of her students. She accepted me for her class that summer. During class instruction, I learned to listen to God and to understand that healing was the revealing of God’s love for all humanity. I was also learning that “the divine Principle of healing is proved in the personal experience of any sincere seeker of Truth” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. x).
