I’ve found that physical workouts can be such a joy and take so many different forms. Sometimes we exercise in an effort to stay fit, and sometimes we do it more for fun.
Recently, I’ve been considering how physical fitness and metaphysical fitness relate to each other. This question came up when a group of friends and I were considering this statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Without a fitness for holiness, we cannot receive holiness” (p. 15). We talked about the importance of maintaining our metaphysical “fitness”—our preparedness to “receive holiness.”
We saw that there were many ways to attain this metaphysical fitness—through prayer, gratitude, spiritual study, church attendance, sharing our healings and inspirations with others and listening to theirs, etc. There are many rewards that come from being metaphysically prepared. These include mental peace, good health, balanced relationships, better self-understanding, becoming conscious of our oneness with our loving Father-Mother God, and so on.
