Discovery

Sometimes you have to travel far
to find something new—
like the Glass House Mountains of Australia,
or the crystal rivers of Patagonia.
But other times you just need to sit outside
on your back stoop
while a hummingbird on a sunny day
holds her place in the sky
just above your head.

It’s a wonder, really,
how things both so far and so near
can bring an unexpected thrill
of some new discovery.

And with the things of Spirit,
even if they too may seem sometimes far away,
yet they are always as close as
our spiritual sense is open to seeing them—
the fullness of joy,
the beauty of holiness,
the glory of the Lord,
and the light of the glorious gospel of Christ.
