One of the cities my husband and I visited during a vacation trip is 11,000 feet above sea level. I noticed oxygen tanks at the front desk of our hotel when we checked in but didn’t think much about it. We spent the next few hours walking around the city. Later, though, I was overcome by symptoms of altitude sickness. I wondered how long I would experience this condition.
I spent the rest of the afternoon praying and resting in our room, and my husband read to me the Bible Lesson for that week from the Christian Science Quarterly. I needed to turn away from what the physical senses were telling me, stop worrying about a timeline, and recognize that I was safe and never separated from God.
I thought about how God is omnipresent, so there is no place where we can be apart from Him. Wherever we go, God’s loving care and protection are always at hand. I affirmed that I was already abiding in the shadow of the Almighty.
