“Little foxes” and following Christ

From the October 2025 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Part of our duty as Christ’s followers is to nurture our spirituality, the light of Truth and Love within us, so it can shine on others and bless them. To fulfill that duty it is vital to be alert to those small annoyances that would block that light. The Bible refers to “the little foxes, that spoil the vines” with their “tender grapes” (Song of Solomon 2:15).

To me, this biblical passage is a call to address the small issues in daily life that may tempt us to complain or feel critical, easily annoyed, or resentful. While these are not what we would consider life-altering faults, they may damage a relationship, sour our opinion of others, or result in a mindset that is fretful and full of negativity.

It is vital to be alert to those small annoyances that would block the light of Truth and Love.
