Laura Sargent was a student in the 1884 class that Mary Baker Eddy taught in Chicago. Sargent went on to become one of Eddy’s most trusted staff members.
When at one point Eddy asked her to do the household bookkeeping, Sargent replied that she knew nothing about that type of work.
“Laura,” Eddy said, “God is a business God. He attends to the business of the universe, and you reflect His business ability.”
With that, Sargent was able to successfully post and balance the books. (See A Biographical Sketch of Victoria H. Sargent and Laura E. Sargent, 1953. The Mary Baker Eddy Library, © The Mary Baker Eddy Collection.)•
