Testimonies of Healing
About fourteen years ago, when I was sorrowing over the loss of home and dear ones and had not been able to eat any solid food for six months and was unable to work, I was told by two physicians that my only hope lay in an operation. This operation was performed.
With a deep sense of gratitude I want to give this testimony in the hope that it will help others. After the loss, within a year, of my husband and a child, combined with other troubles, I had a complete nervous breakdown.
Having received help many times from the testimonies given in our periodicals, I take this opportunity of contributing what has been to me a wonderful proof that Truth does indeed heal discordant conditions. For some time I did not seem able to breathe when I attempted to walk any distance; in fact, for a time I could take only a few steps before it would seem necessary for me to rest.
I seem always to have known about Christian Science, for my grandmother was one of its early students, but I did not really begin to apply its wonderful teaching to problems for myself until I was hard pressed. When, on a particular occasion, I turned whole-heartedly to God for help, I was instantaneously healed of a trouble for which I had been told there was no help but an operation; and in over twenty-one years there has not been the slightest return of the difficulty.
While crossing a highly polished floor I slipped and fell. Great pain was immediately manifested in my arm, but instantly "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was remembered.
Over twenty-two years ago I turned to Christian Science as a last resort for physical healing. Having been left a motherless and delicate babe, I struggled through childhood, girlhood, and young womanhood with a sense of weakness and limitation, and was frequently under medical treatment.
After studying Christian Science for about four years I became careless and neglected my study for some time. Then, about three years ago, I was taken with a severe case of pleurisy of the lungs, tonsillitis in a bad form, earache, and constipation.
I cannot praise God enough for bringing me into Christian Science, through which I was saved from an operation to which I was about to submit, even though doctors thought I might be too weak to undergo it. An experience for which I can never be sufficiently grateful was a healing I had of erysipelas in August, 1925.
I am very grateful that I can lift my voice in thanksgiving and praise to God for Christian Science. For eighteen years I have been the constant beneficiary of its benevolent healing influence on my life.
It is a privilege to tell of the healing truth of Christian Science. Nineteen years ago I was healed of a malignant growth, and it has been a permanent healing.
