Testimonies of Healing
Among the many ills of which I have been healed in Christian Science are chronic constipation of an unusually stubborn nature, colds, influenza, an infected thumb, a sprained ankle, and a sprained neck; also, hatred of what I was pleased to term "religious hypocrisy," a failing I attached especially to various Christian Scientists. I am now, and have been for several years, busily engaged in trying to overcome my own erroneous thoughts; an effort which I find much more profitable both to myself and to others.
One afternoon, about eleven years ago, I entered a Christian Science Reading Room and asked the librarian to tell me something about Christian Science. She very lovingly directed me to a practitioner; and, rather indifferently, I went to his office and repeated my question, thinking at this juncture that perhaps I might be relieved of the physical suffering which I was experiencing.
I desire to express my deep gratitude for all the demonstrations we have had through the help of Christian Science. During these last years we have had numerous proofs of the power of Truth, as taught and demonstrated by this Science.
As Christian Science has been my only physician for the past twelve years, I wish to give my testimony. Christian Science has met all my needs, but there is one healing which stands out as a beacon, and which I wish to relate.
That Christian Science heals disease and faults of character and satisfies our desires for a real understanding of Life, I have had ample proof in the last nineteen years. I am strong and well, and have been healed of the need for glasses and of deafness.
In the year 1900 I left my native state and friends and went to reside in the Rockies, my chief desire being to find health and greater peace of mind. Many years had been spent in searching for relief from extreme headaches, throat trouble, and general debility.
Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. " I am very happy to have proved that the truth frees from the bondage of material law.
The great peace, which comes in some measure to all who love Christian Science and strive to understand and live it, has come to me, and I am indeed a grateful witness to its healing and redeeming power. Many years ago, at a time when I seemed with "no hope, and without God in the world," and when medical science, which I had employed almost constantly for several years, gave me no hope of relief from several supposedly incurable diseases, Christian Science was presented to me by a friend who had been healed by it of almost total blindness.
With profound gratitude to and reverence for our dear Father-Mother God, and with gratitude also to our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I submit this testimony, sincerely trusting it may help some friend along the road from sense to Soul.
Not because the physical is by any means the most important do I stress it, for it cannot compare with the peace that comes through practice of the teachings of Christian Science, or with the realization of the truth which heals our supposed ills, and which makes us truly happy. Nothing can compare with the spiritual peace which Christian Science brings.
