Testimonies of Healing
In 1906 I was confirmed and became a member of the Remonstrantsche church at The Hague, Holland. On confirmation day this question was asked: "Do you wish to follow in Jesus' footsteps?" I answered with sincerity, "Yes," because ever since I was nine years old I had loved Jesus as the friend of children and of grown-up people.
My life has been changed from one black with pain and despair to one rich with wonderful blessings and harmonious living since I found, through Christian Science, that God is Life, Truth, and Love. Thirteen years ago, while teaching in a small town in central Iowa, I was stricken with appendicitis at a time when I was having serious domestic difficulties.
Before coming into Christian Science I was suffering from nervous prostration with many complications. When I had lost all faith in medical science a kind friend suggested that I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
It is several years since I first took up the study of Christian Science. During this time I have had many blessings, physical, financial, and spiritual.
In the spring of 1914, while seeking the truth regarding life, I entered for the first time a Christian Science church. Little did I realize, as I passed through its portals, the joy, healing, and comfort that may come to all honest seekers of Truth.
In England about thirty years ago there was an epidemic of what was called Russian influenza. I caught the trouble, and nearly passed on.
Seventeen years ago I was in bondage to the flesh, having suffered many years from gallstones, Bright's disease, uremic poisoning, a bad heart, and bowel trouble. About a third of my time was spent in bed.
Christian Science has been my only physician for over ten years; and during this period I have had many healings, two of which especially stand out as cause for much gratitude. The first was that of my eyes.
When Christian Science came to our home I was young enough to attend the Sunday school; and I shall always be grateful for this, as I feel sure the lessons learned there have helped me, perhaps oftener than I know, to stand firm during trials. Soon after coming into Christian Science I was healed in one night of a very bad sore throat.
About four years ago a friend was healed of rheumatoid arthritis by Christian Science treatment. I had never heard of Christian Science before, and began to wonder if it could heal my little boy, who was nearly two years old and was suffering from what the doctors called fluid on the brain.
