Testimonies of Healing
I want to tell of some of the wonderful things Christian Science has done for me. In the fall of 1918 I suddenly became very ill with influenza, being unable to rest for a minute at a time.
Some years ago I took up the study of Christian Science, not because of physical ailments, but for the religious consolation which I needed very much at the time. After a halfhearted investigation I became very much disturbed, and was uncertain as to whether or not I wished to continue the study.
With a heart full of gratitude I wish to testify to the many blessings which I have experienced in Christian Science. In November, 1924, I was taken ill with fever.
I was introduced to Christian Science in 1904, and can truthfully say I have never met such a friend before or since. At that time there was a small Christian Science Society, not a dozen people in all, which used to meet in different homes on Wednesday evenings to read the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.
It is with a feeling of the deepest gratitude that I wish to testify to my deliverance, through the earnest study of Christian Science, from a condition called neurasthenia, approaching melancholia. A more miserable and pitiable mental state than that I was in it would be difficult to imagine; and the physical condition became more and more hopeless as fear took possession of my thought.
In 1920, when Christian Science was first presented to me, I was a mental and physical wreck. I had been a hospital patient off and on for three years, and had visited a health resort, but received no benefit.
On page 111 of "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy says, "Leaving the seed of Truth to its own vitality, it propagates: the tares cannot hinder it.
I had heard of Christian Science when I lived in New York city, but thought it was a queer religion for queer people. Later, while homesteading on the California desert sixty-five miles from a railroad, I prayed to God for help, as I was seemingly passing through deep waters.
I did not turn to Christian Science for physical healing or for mental healing, but simply to satisfy my curiosity. I was so impressed by the simplicity of the Sunday services and the loving atmosphere there, that I at once took up the study of this Science.
It is now twelve years since we started to study Christian Science, and we have found it a wonderful help in trouble. I cannot tell of all the wonderful healings we have had in our family, as it would require a book to contain them ; but I will tell of one healing, in the hope that it will help someone else, and to show that distance does not hinder the good work.
