Testimonies of Healing
I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. All my life I had been a great sufferer, with nearly all the ailments to which flesh is heir.
My father, a Methodist preacher, passed on when I was an infant, and my widowed mother taught me to trust in God for everything, as we expressed it, but not as Christian Scientists understand it. In 1913 my mother passed on, and for a while I clung closer to God and to my church, but my longings were not satisfied, so I began to stay away from church and almost quit going.
That truth and love can neither be hidden nor destroyed has been proved to me beyond a doubt. Four years ago I could not see either to read or to write, and as I had always been very fond of reading this was a great affliction.
When I read the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel and receive so much help from them, I feel that I must send mine, as it may help some one who thinks that his healing is long delayed. After eighteen years of suffering —taking medicine constantly, employing six physicians, and receiving only temporary relief, —as a last resort I was sent to the West to see what change of climate could do for me.
I am very grateful to add my testimony to those given in the Journal and Sentinel. My first healing stands out above all the others I have received.
I wish to testify with gratitude to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. Though most unruly and mischievous as a boy and in later years a slave to evil beliefs and practices, I was always deeply touched by real goodness and had a strong belief in the power of prayer and in God's protection; therefore, when after many years of struggle I one day (in 1912) picked up a copy of Science and Health which my mother had brought over from England, I knew that at last I had found the truth.
I have been interested in Christian Science over seven years, and wish to express gratitude for the healing in one day of what is known as dengue, although ordinarily people are incapacitated by this disease for several weeks. A small son fell and dislocated his arm at the elbow.
I have always felt the need of a religious life; but I never found a religion that met the spiritual requirements, until I commenced reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
I Want to give this testimony in gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy for what the study of Christian Science has taught me, and in the hope that it will reach those who may be having the seeming trouble I had.
It would be very ungrateful for me to wait any longer to give my testimony about the many blessings that have come to me and to my family through the knowledge of Christian Science. I did not turn to it for physical healing, but because what I heard of its teachings appealed to me.
