Testimonies of Healing
The divine command, "Bring yc all the tithes into the storehouse," prompts this most grateful recognition of Love's blessings, received through Christian Science. During the past five or six years an unfoldment of the truth of being has been accompanied by many beneficial experiences.
When I became interested in Christian Science, all material means had failed me; but it meant much for me to throw aside medicine, give up the care of physicians, and try something which I knew absolutely nothing about. From childhood I had been taught to respect all religions and that every one had a right to his own belief; so when I took up the study of Christian Science for the physical healing, I was free from prejudice.
For some months it has occurred to me that I should send in a testimony giving at least a slight expression of gratitude for benefits received from the study and application of Christian Science. As a beginner in this study I feel deeply grateful for the fruits realized.
Christian Science has been my only physician for twenty-one years, as I was wonderfully healed when a girl after being given up by several physicians as incurable. They pronounced the trouble neuralgic rheumatism and dyspepsia.
Ten years ago my mother began to study Christian Science, and in my ignorance of the real nature of this teaching I thought, What foolish fad will she take up next? When, however, in two weeks she was healed of a discordant condition of several years' standing, I knew that there must be some truth in Christian Science, so began to pick up the Sentinel and read it when no one was looking. About two months after I began to study this wonderful subject, we had a healing in our home that proved the power of Christian Science beyond the shadow of a doubt.
I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. All my life I had been a great sufferer, with nearly all the ailments to which flesh is heir.
My father, a Methodist preacher, passed on when I was an infant, and my widowed mother taught me to trust in God for everything, as we expressed it, but not as Christian Scientists understand it. In 1913 my mother passed on, and for a while I clung closer to God and to my church, but my longings were not satisfied, so I began to stay away from church and almost quit going.
That truth and love can neither be hidden nor destroyed has been proved to me beyond a doubt. Four years ago I could not see either to read or to write, and as I had always been very fond of reading this was a great affliction.
When I read the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel and receive so much help from them, I feel that I must send mine, as it may help some one who thinks that his healing is long delayed. After eighteen years of suffering —taking medicine constantly, employing six physicians, and receiving only temporary relief, —as a last resort I was sent to the West to see what change of climate could do for me.
I am very grateful to add my testimony to those given in the Journal and Sentinel. My first healing stands out above all the others I have received.
