Testimonies of Healing
With heartfelt gratitude I send this testimony, knowing that under God's loving guidance, through the far-reaching influence of our literature, it will go forth into all lands wherever there is some one waiting to be helped. About three years ago, after passing through a severe attack of acute lung trouble, which developed into tubercular disease of the lungs, I was advised by doctors in this city to go to a higher and drier locality, and as I had at that time great faith in the power of fresh air to overcome disease, I went to Saranac Lake in this state.
Having received so much good from the testimonies of others in the Sentinel and the Journal, I appreciate the privilege of writing of some of the blessings which have come into my life through Christian Science, in the hope that others may be encouraged as I have been on the journey from sense to Soul. I have been interested in religious matters since childhood, my mother being a devout Christian.
With a heart overflowing with gratitude I wish to express to the field my appreciation of Christian Science, and tell a few of my many reasons for thankfulness. At an early age, from a sense of duty, I joined the church to which my mother, and her parents before her, belonged, but I felt that sometime I would find a church which would be more in accordance with my belief; consequently I studied every religion and prayed to be led to the right one.
Each day adds to my sense of gratitude for the understanding I have of Christian Science, and realizing that the truest way to express this gratitude is to give to others that which has been given to me, I am offering this testimony of a perfect and complete healing of acute lung trouble in four days. On Tuesday, January 2, 1917, at about eleven o'clock in the morning, I was seized with a hard chill.
It is five years since I first came in touch with Christian Science, but I have been very slow in grasping its teaching. In the autumn of 1910 I had an operation for an abnormal growth, but the shock to my system, combined with the work and worry of everyday life, kept me from being well, and at the end of two years there was every symptom of a return of the trouble.
Gratitude prompts me to submit my testimony of the healing power of Christian Science, hoping the benefits received by me may bring light to others seeking help. I became interested in this religion through the healing of my brother, who was in a dying condition with lung trouble when Christian Science restored him to perfect health.
I wish to express my deep thankfulness to the giver of all good, our Father-Mother God, and my gratitude to His messenger, Mrs. Eddy, for the healing I have received through Christian Science; also to convey the good news to those who, like myself, are seeking the light, and to say that Christian Science, rightly understood, does heal.
It is fifteen years since I became interested in Christian Science, and to-day I find it difficult to remember what it was like to be without it. When it first found me I was a very delicate woman, slowly recovering from an operation, and with no guaranty from my kind physician that the condition would not recur.
Some years ago, on returning home for my Christmas holidays, I found that my mother, who had been in bad health for some years and who used to be confined to bed three or four days every week, was much better. I began to make inquiries as to what had happened, and she told me that it was Christian Science which had helped her.
I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and for my family. I did not take up the study of it for physical healing.
