Testimonies of Healing
I am glad to have the privilege of expressing my gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me through a better understanding of man's relationship to God as revealed in Christian Science. To my great surprise, Christian Science not only brought me deliverance from physical ills which medical methods were powerless to alleviate, but proved the solution for many other problems.
I have often thought that if Christian Science does more for any one class of people than another it is for mothers, since it has been such a help to me in raising my children. A few years ago, while we were living in Chicago, one night after retiring I awakened at half past ten with a terrible sense of dread.
A dear sister has supplied me with Christian Science literature for the past ten years or more, and I have learned to appreciate it more than all other literature combined except the Bible, which it has taught me to love and study with an understanding never before possible. I have always been a lover of good and sacred things and had laid my all on the altar, my greatest desire being to serve God truly.
I heard about Christian Science some years ago from my family, and have had many blessings from it since. I was first healed of the habit of smoking, which it had seemed impossible for me to give up.
It is nearly ten years since I took up the study of Christian Science, and I feel that it is only right to give my testimony in the hope that it may help some one as I have been helped so often by the testimonies of others. The church of which I had been a member believed strongly in a personal devil and a burning hell.
The testimonies in the Journal have been such a help to me that I can no longer withhold my pæan of gratitude. It was in 1907 that I first heard of Christian Science, and out of curiosity went to a Sunday morning service at a seaside town, where I happened to be staying at the time.
In gratitude for the many blessings received through the application of Christian Science I desire to give my testimony. In boyhood I studied the Bible at school, as is required in my native country, and was very fond of religion.
I am very grateful for Christian Science. A few months before becoming interested in it I went out to Australia to pay some visits.
The reading of an article in the Sentinel caused me to realize that to withhold my testimony until further demonstrations were made, so that I might have more for which to express gratitude, was, in a way, not being grateful for blessings already received. While participating in a game of basket ball, I fell and rubbed the skin off my knee.
With a heart full of gratitude for our dear Leader's untiring love and patience, I write these lines. Christian Science came to me when, to mortal sense, my dear mother was passing from my sight with lung trouble.
