Testimonies of Healing
At the age of fourteen I became ill with heart trouble. The family doctor and a specialist attended me and informed my parents that I would never be fit to attend college again, and worst of all I was never to lift anything heavier than a pen.
For a long time I have felt that I should like to tell something of what Christian Science has done for me, as I have found so much help from reading the testimonies of others. I first, became interested in Christian Science in May, 1913, while feeling very ill and discouraged.
Fifteen years ago, while staying in South Gippsland with some friends, I was suddenly taken ill during the night. Although a doctor was called in, it was a week before I had recovered sufficiently to undertake the journey home, and considerable time elapsed before I could say that I was myself again.
This testimony is given in thanksgiving for what Christian Science has done for me. For years I suffered from so-called valvular heart trouble and the many conditions that go with it.
When Christian Science was first mentioned to me I was believed to be at death's door. Our family physician was with me night and day, and all were waiting for the end to come.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I tell briefly of my coming into Christian Science. From 1910 until February, 1913, I was in the East, in Japan, China, and the Philippine Islands.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude and love to God, also to Mrs. Eddy, that I send this testimony.
For the clearer understanding of God which has been unfolded to me through the study of the Bible and Science and Health in the last two years I do indeed praise the Lord. My former religion meant to me only one of the features of education.
Before I became acquainted with Christian Science I was afflicted with internal troubles, and upon the advice of the physicians had an operation performed. Instead of improving I grew weaker, however, and as a result, contracted hernia, which caused me untold suffering.
I should like to express my gratitude for the understanding of God and of man's relation to Him which I have gained in Christian Science. If anyone had told me two years ago that I would be a Christian Scientist to-day, I should have said it was impossible.
