Testimonies of Healing
Last summer I was healed through Christian Science of what one physician termed a nervous breakdown and what another could not or did not name; but both recommended a change of climate, so I went to the home of relatives in Maine. Soon after reaching there, however, I felt just as bad as when I was in the West,—could not sleep, had pains in the head, and all the old troubles that had caused me to go East.
I was led to study Christian Science through the healing of my husband. Ever since I can remember I had suffered from severe headache; in fact I did not know what it was to be free from this condition except at night, until I was healed in Christian Science.
One Sunday morning I found upon awaking that I could not speak aloud. As I was first reader in a branch church and my duties began in a few hours, fear and anxiety came over me.
Three years ago I turned to Christian Science for help, and received it immediately. For seven years previous to that time I had suffered from a most distressing form of intestinal trouble.
I have been a student of Christian Science for about four and a half years, and have been richly rewarded for every effort. The knowledge gained of this beautiful truth, so lovingly presented to us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mrs.
In deep gratitude for all the blessings received through Christian Science I wish to tell of some of them. From childhood I suffered with headache and was never strong, although many kinds of medicine were taken.
I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, although I had been afflicted with headaches since childhood and had suffered from throat troubles so long that they seemed a part of me and I never expected to be healed. The tonsils had been removed, but still the throat trouble continued.
In May, 1906, when I had reached the end of my physical and mental endurance, and after all known resources had been exhausted in an effort to find the true God, Christian Science was presented to me by one whom I had known only a few days, and a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was loaned to me.
This is to certify that my mother's statement is true, only we cannot begin to tell of the great blessings we have realized through Christian Science and the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
In May, 1915, I was taken with shortness of breath, and a swelling of the feet which gradually extended into the abdomen, leaving the feet and legs very sore and hard, so that I could walk only a few steps, and that with pain and difficulty. One doctor said that the shortness of breath was due to heart, trouble, while another pronounced the swelling dropsy.
