Testimonies of Healing

Previous to coming into Christian Science I had had a rather remarkable religious experience, being tossed about from one denomination to another, always hoping for but never finding entire satisfaction, and finally giving myself up to close Bible study, though I was without any church connection for years. The only knowledge I had of Christian Science was derived from newspaper reports of an adverse nature, but a number of years ago I saw a public announcement of a Christian Science lecture to be delivered in Dublin, and I determined to go and hear for myself, to find if possible what my heart so sorely needed.

On Dec. 24, 1912, when I arose in the morning, I realized that there seemed to be something radically wrong in my condition.

I am a student of Christian Science, and it is my desire to help others to understand the truth. Today, as I was reading the Sentinel , the thought came to me that maybe I could help not only one but many by giving my testimony of how the truth was revealed to me.

I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. It has helped me in so many ways that I am convinced it is the same healing power which was used by Jesus and the apostles.

I HAD been afflicted with what was called muscular and inflammatory rheumatism, when about the age of thirteen, through a belief of heredity, as my father and sisters had been likewise afflicted. Starting in my ankles, it gradually crept upward, and within a year had involved my whole system, bringing on spinal disease, or what is known as "Pott's curvature," until at the age of eighteen I was bent almost double.

In the spring of 1910 I became conscious of an enlargement in my breast, and it seemed to be attached, which was a most unfavorable symptom. This lasted for six weeks, during which time there was in my home a trained nurse, who so filled me with fear over the outcome of a consultation with a physician, that despite my suffering I would put off this interview from day to day.

I wish to add my testimony to the many which I have read and from which I have received so much help. When I went to a Christian Science practitioner I was suffering from such severe headaches that I was unable to walk a block without enduring terrible pain.

I wish to give my testimony as to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. In June, 1908, I was to material sense suffering from a bad case of rheumatism, and had been for twelve weeks.

A very dear friend came to me on Aug. 15, 1911, and asked me to try Christian Science for the healing, and for that alone, as at that time I did not know it was of value for anything else.

It was my privilege to experience a remarkable instance of the love and omnipotent power of God in the summer of 1913. For five years I had suffered with stubborn attacks of so-called hay-fever, which caused me great distress, especially during the beautiful season of the year when everything was blooming.
