Testimonies of Healing
In the hope that what I am about to relate may be the means of bringing a measure of encouragement to some wanderer in the wilderness of doubt and despair, I am encouraged to give publicity to the benefits I have experienced through the power of Christian Science to harmonize the lives of sinning and suffering humanity. It is more than seven years since I first began to investigate Christian Science, and although my study has been far from profound or systematic, it has nevertheless been sufficient to enable me, with the occasional assistance of a practitioner, to refrain from the use of material remedies during the whole of that time, to control in appetite for intoxicants, and also to meet with a measure of equanimity serious business reverses as well as the petty annoyances and impositions which are the daily experience of the average business man.
I wish to add my testimony to that of Mrs. McKeown.
It has long been my desire to express gratitude through our periodicals for all that Christian Science has done for me and mine. There is one demonstration which I would especially like to mention, and for which I am very grateful.
It is with deepest gratitude that I send this testimony to the Journal , with the hope that it may be of help to some one. About five years ago I was operated on for an internal malignant growth, and the doctor told me that it would not return.
Several years ago, when away from home, I was attacked by a severe pain, which was promptly diagnosed as appendicitis. My condition was considered so serious that I was urged to go to a hospital, but fear of surgical treatment induced me to adopt the advice of a good friend to try Christian Science.
Because the testimonies of others in the Journal and Sentinel have so often helped me, I feel that perhaps it is my duty publicly to express my gratitude to the great Giver of all good, for the gift of Christian Science to the world through Mrs. Eddy.
I am glad that I have an opportunity to express my gratitude for the many healings that have been wrought in my family since I took up the study of Christian Science. During the winter of 1911-12 my husband became very ill, and according to the symptoms, materiel medica would have called it a severe illness.
I am deeply thankful to God for all His goodness to me. I am also very grateful for the knowledge of Christian Science and for all the blessings that have come to me through it.
I send this testimony as a small expression of my gratitude for the help I have received from the testimonies and articles in the Journal and Sentinel , also for the daily benefit derived from studying the Lesson-Sermons and from reading the works of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
About fourteen years ago the stomach trouble with attendant nervous breakdown, from which I suffered, was pronounced incurable by prominent physicians. After being sent to my home in Indiana, Christian Science treatment was taken up.
