Testimonies of Healing
It is over eight years since I was healed by Christian Science. I had been strong and healthy all of my life until about three years prior to that time, when I took a very hard cold and had a prolonged attack of throat and lung trouble, from which I did not fully recover until other ills manifested themselves.
The time has come when I am so filled with the realization of what God has done for me that I must acknowledge my help. Before I learned of this truth, I find that most of my memories are associated with illness from childhood.
It is with great pleasure that I give this testimony, as a small evidence of gratitude for the benefit I have received through Christian Science. For twenty years I had been a constant sufferer from abnormal growths, in which time I had been treated by many eminent physicians,—one specially skilled in surgery; but after a thorough examination it was decided that an operation would mean instant death.
About five years ago I began to have serious stomach trouble, being unable for a week at a time to retain food or drink. For almost a year I was under the care of osteopathic physicians, at the end of which time I began treatment under one of the best physicians of Memphis, Tenn.
I wish to tell of the healing of my mother, which to me was very beautiful after I had seen her suffer for many years. She had been under medical treatment for over ten years, and had undergone several operations, but grew worse continually.
It is with a heart overflowing with gratitude, and a sincere desire to help others, that I write this testimony. I have many reasons to be grateful for Christian Science but I think the strongest proof of its divine power, to me, has been in the healing of sorrow.
I consider it a privilege to send the following testimony, bearing witness to what the truth has done for me. Jesus' words,, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," are a blessed promise to one in bondage as I was at the time I began to investigate Christian Science.
MOST people at an early time of life have an underlying conviction, seldom expressed in words, that there must be a true religion. As time goes on, this conviction often changes into doubt and sometimes disappears, according to the environment and education of the individual.
As I have received so much benefit, spiritually and physically, from reading the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel, I feel that I am not expressing sufficient gratitude to God if I withhold longer my experience in healing, which might help some one as other testimonies have helped me. Five years ago I was for several weeks confined to bed with a nervous collapse.
In the year 1906 I twice had an attack of pleurisy which was not entirely healed through medical treatment, and the following year I had lung trouble which was so severe that I was hardly able to walk. A professor whom I asked to examine me declared that in my case it was useless to prescribe medicine or tell me to go to a sanitarium; that my lungs were seriously affected, and that I must sleep with open windows and eat very light food.
