
Testimonies of Healing
Today I thought of how fearful I used to be of standing up and giving a testimony at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I had all kinds of excuses for not giving testimonies, but I would sit and give many silent ones.
Class instruction in Christian Science provided me with more inspiration than I had ever imagined. However, in the middle of the class, I began to suffer from the flu.
Our adventurous African honeymoon trip was going wonderfully, yet I had reacted quite ungraciously to some harmless issue one morning. It left me with an unhappy feeling about my consciousness and actions—a feeling of not being in control of my responses.
While I was visiting my sister, she and a neighbor and I were out for an evening walk. My sister was having some construction work done, and there were pallets and cinder blocks lying about.
Before being acquainted with Christian Science, I was always annoyed with problems: financial problems, relationship problems. But the severest problem I had was HIV.
I am deeply grateful that my great-grandmother, around a hundred years ago, was introduced to Christian Science, recognized its practicality in everyday life, and took it for her own. Six generations of my family have benefited, and are benefiting, from that decision.
It was a Friday afternoon at the end of the term, and final exams were to take place the next week, when I appeared to come down with the flu. I was not only uncomfortable as a result of the condition, but I also felt unable to start studying for my exams, which I was quite concerned about doing well on.
Just over a year ago I seemed so seriously ill, incapacitated, and in pain, that I kept telling my wife "goodbye. " She would lovingly smile, encourage me with strong statements of God's healing care for me as His expression, and remind me there was no place to go; I could only express Life! Hourly I prayed to obey Mrs.
Through the study of Christian Science, I have come to know God not only as a healing presence in my life, but also as a saving and protecting power. Many times a thought or an idea has come to me just at a time or in a situation when it would keep me from harm.
One healing that really stands out to me started as quite a challenge. I detected several lumps in my breast and was experiencing a lot of discomfort.
