Testimonies of Healing
When I first enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School at the age of about ten, a profound impression was made on me by the Christian Science explanation of what God is. This new (to me) and illuminating view of God as ever-present Love brought immediate change for the better in my life.
At one time over a period of two years, anxiety, resentment, a sense of being unloved and unable to love, remorse, and depression regularly troubled me. Yet I did little to overcome them.
My family came into Christian Science as the result of a healing I had as a small child. A serious fever, which a doctor could not diagnose, caused me to cry much of the time as well as to lose hair and appetite.
One snowy weekend, friends and I arranged to ski to a mountain cabin. We drove beyond the usual path until we found good snow and then began to ski cross-country to the cabin.
As a young teenager, I found that study of the weekly Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School were essential to me in establishing a strong spiritual foundation. The following healing brought to light the power and truth of the opening sentence of the chapter "Prayer" in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love.
The Bible tells us of God: "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he" (Deuteronomy). In Christian Science we learn that God is the one creator, divine Principle.
Church membership and freedom from a dependency on tobacco and alcohol—these were my deepest desires some twenty-five years ago. I had been raised in Christian Science, and I'd been taught in Sunday School that using any addictive, mind-altering substance was definitely not in keeping with the teachings of Science.
Of all the healings our family has had over the years, the first healing we experienced stands out to me. We had been living in an apartment, and in December we acquired a home.
The Bible calls on men, women, and children to praise God. In fact the book of Psalms closes with the words "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.
Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "The days of our pilgrimage will multiply instead of diminish, when God's kingdom comes on earth; for the true way leads to Life instead of to death, and earthly experience discloses the finity of error and the infinite capacities of Truth, in which God gives man dominion over all the earth.
