Testimonies of Healing
The healing power of the Christ, Truth, as explained in Christian Science, has been very evident throughout my life. One healing in particular is most precious to me because it showed me how important it is to watch one's thinking.
As a young man I made an extensive hiking tour through a mountainous region. In so doing, I had to cover quite a lot of distance from one lodging to the next.
" I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten," promises the Bible in the book of Joel. I am grateful for an experience that taught me the true meaning of restoration —showing me that what is really "restored" is the true, spiritual concept of being.
I am deeply grateful for Christian Science. I was raised in this Science but fell away from its teachings during my teens.
When I first enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School at the age of about ten, a profound impression was made on me by the Christian Science explanation of what God is. This new (to me) and illuminating view of God as ever-present Love brought immediate change for the better in my life.
At one time over a period of two years, anxiety, resentment, a sense of being unloved and unable to love, remorse, and depression regularly troubled me. Yet I did little to overcome them.
My family came into Christian Science as the result of a healing I had as a small child. A serious fever, which a doctor could not diagnose, caused me to cry much of the time as well as to lose hair and appetite.
One snowy weekend, friends and I arranged to ski to a mountain cabin. We drove beyond the usual path until we found good snow and then began to ski cross-country to the cabin.
As a young teenager, I found that study of the weekly Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School were essential to me in establishing a strong spiritual foundation. The following healing brought to light the power and truth of the opening sentence of the chapter "Prayer" in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love.
The Bible tells us of God: "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he" (Deuteronomy). In Christian Science we learn that God is the one creator, divine Principle.
