Testimonies of Healing
It is with deep gratitude for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and in support of her demonstration of the establishment of the periodicals that I submit these proofs of the healing power of Christian Science. A healing of scarlet fever in four days occurred when I was in high school.
When I was a very young child, my mother became a student of Christian Science soon after her brother was healed of cancer of the stomach. My uncle had been given but a very short time to live by the attending physicians, when a close friend of his recommended that he try Christian Science.
"A Christian Scientist! Me? Never— I could never be a Christian Scientist!" These were the words I exclaimed to my prospective husband seven years ago. Today, as a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, I have something different to say! For my husband's enthusiastic example and patience in introducing me to this regenerating religion, and for the growth achieved through active participation in a Christian Science college organization early in my study, I am grateful beyond expression.
Some years ago my grandfather was told by a doctor that the disease he had was incurable. My grandfather only turned to Christian Science as a last resort, since he was openly critical of this religion.
It was my privilege to be raised in a Christian Science home. During my childhood many wonderful healings took place, involving other members of the family as well as myself.
"If you still believe that God is the Almighty, you must also know that He is almighty. " These words were written to me many years ago by a dear Christian Science practitioner, who lived several hundred miles from my town.
I was first introduced to Christian Science many years ago. About 1927, I hurt my back in a fall, apparently dislocating some vertebrae.
My first testimony appeared in The Christian Science Journal of April, 1943. I did not come into Christian Science for healing.
In the early postdepression years, I was living with a family whose income had been cut off by the economic collapse. Their combined efforts to overcome great hardships—their love, courage, and faith —so impressed me that I began attending a Church of Christ, Scientist, with them.
When I consider how Christian Science permeates my life, contributing joy, wisdom, right activity, depth, stability, and scope, in proportion as I study and practice it, I hasten at last to contribute my testimony in print. I have been blessed with a sense of adventure in my daily life.
