Testimonies of Healing
After describing in "Unity of Good" several types of healings which she had accomplished, Mrs. Eddy states ( p.
Christian Science is very dear to me because it has lifted me from the depths of fear, doubt, discouragement, and uncertainty. For many years I wavered between the desire to be a student of it and the fear that I would not be able to apply its teachings successfully in the event of illness or accident.
For a number of years I was bothered by congestion of the lungs caused by an asthmatic condition which at times made breathing difficult. Although I had help from a Christian Science practitioner in addition to my own prayers and study, and received relief, the healing was not complete.
As a girl and young woman I often had a great longing for something, I knew not what; but I thought it was for good health, since before I was twenty-five years of age I had had two surgical operations and was also taking drugs for neurasthenia and acute depression. For many years I lived in almost daily fear of losing my reason.
Since 1956 I have been a faithful adherent of Christian Science. One day a man we know called my son's attention to Science, and he brought me the joyous news that I could be freed from my almost unbearable pain.
About sixteen years ago, shortly after I had become interested in it, Christian Science helped me to solve a difficult business problem. I had been given a position as manager of a company in which there was a lack of discipline among the personnel, and it was my duty to correct the situation.
For the priceless privilege of having attended a Christian Science Sunday School, I shall be eternally grateful. But it was not until several years after our marriage that my husband and I became earnest students of Science.
After studying Christian Science but a few days, I could see that drinking and smoking were not in accord with its teachings. Furthermore, I reasoned that the understanding and application of what I was reading depended upon the ability to think clearly at all times.
Christian Science has been my rod and staff since childhood. For the many blessings which have come to me through its study and practice, I am truly grateful.
Shortly after my parents became interested in Christian Science, I was advised by the school authorities that a spot which was on one of my feet and which had been extremely painful for many months was believed to be cancerous and required medical attention. However, several days later when I was called into the office of one of my teachers and asked what I was doing about the condition, I felt impelled to tell her that my parents were new students of Christian Science and that I was going to rely upon it for healing.
