Testimonies of Healing
Shortly after the end of the Second World War, it became obvious that my family and I needed a larger place in which to live. At the time there was a housing shortage, and finding another home, large or small, seemed an impossibility.
" God exists now. He is right here with you to help you.
I am grateful for the friend who introduced our family to the teachings of Christian Science and for the resulting healing of my mother, who, suffering from a complication of diseases, had reached a stage when medication could bring no relief, and an operation was impossible owing to a heart condition. With the prayers of a practitioner, she was restored to normal health within two weeks.
For many years now my husband and I have experienced a continual unfoldment of good through an understanding of God's love gained from our study of Christian Science. At the beginning of World War II we shared a rented dwelling with another small family.
My first experience in Christian Science was the healing of sinus trouble, a condition that had bothered me for a number of years. This Science had been presented to me by friends in another town several years prior to this, but I was not ready to accept it at that time.
When I was in about the fourth grade I had difficulty with arithmetic and, being a shy child, was much embarrassed at the blackboard. I attended a Protestant Sunday School at the time, and one night when saying my prayers I promised God that if He would send an angel to stand by me at the blackboard the next day to tell me how to work out the problem, I would believe in Him.
Twelve years ago my only knowledge of Christian Science was that its adherents did not go to doctors. At that time I was a confused, moody individual, given over to the smoking and drinking habits, and in bondage to an unhappy past.
My mother had been interested in Christian Science for several years, but I took little interest in it other than to attend a church service with her occasionally until in 1959 I became very ill with severe pain in my head and stayed home from work for a week under medical care. The condition continued to get worse until the doctor ordered me to enter a company hospital, since I was an employee of a railroad.
For many years I had been active in a Protestant church, but persistent ill-health made me yearn for a deeper understanding of God. I began to wonder if true Christianity really existed.
My father and mother were members of an orthodox Christian church in a small town. They were very strong in their faith.
