Testimonies of Healing

My heart is full of gratitude for the fact that I was led to become a student of Christian Science. One day a relative visiting in our home gave me my first insight into it and kindly lent me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs.

As a child I had a great fear of God because I had been led to believe that He sent evil as a punishment for our sins. When I was twenty a sister came home from a distant city bringing the first word I had ever had of Christian Science.

Soon after becoming interested in Christian Science, I accepted what seemed to be an unusually good secretarial position. However, my first day at the office presented a discouraging picture.

One of my greatest blessings is that I have never known any other religion than Christian Science. As I look back on my childhood, I recall one incident when a sister and I were grinding meat in a grinder.

When my wife and I first heard of Christian Science nearly thirty years ago, we were living over twelve miles from the nearest place in which it was being studied and demonstrated. Rumors reached us that people who had been considered incurable were being healed, and my wife decided to go on horseback to the place to learn more about this new method and to talk with the Christian Science practitioner who had recently come there.

Some time ago I was suffering from what appeared to be a hopeless case of dropsy. A Christian Science practitioner was called upon and gave much time, with love unlimited, to help me see that our primary concern is not to heal a sick body, but rather to replace a misconception about man with the truth of his necessary perfection as the image and likeness of God.

Over a period of thirty years I have had many physical healings, for which I am grateful, through the study and application of Christian Science. Business difficulties have been solved.

Christian Science was offered to my father by his brother, and how hungrily he drank in every word! The way that he accepted and loved this Science has been an inspiration to me through trying times. We were brought up thinking of health instead of sickness, of love instead of hate, of gratitude instead of ingratitude.

The most cherished and indelible memory of my childhood is my mother's healing through Christian Science. She had been ill four years.

From a very early age our son had expressed a desire for a career at sea. With this in mind, we entered him for a nautical college.
