Testimonies of Healing
My first healing in Christian Science, which was that of a severe eye infection, came through the help of a practitioner. I had been having regular treatments from an eye specialist for about four months.
I did not begin to study Christian Science for physical healing, but I did so because I liked what I saw of this religion as applied by a Christian Science practitioner in whose home I lived for several years soon after leaving college. My first reading of Science and Health by Mrs.
Christian Science was introduced into our home when I was very young, and since that period I have seen healings in the family of so-called children's ailments, influenza, broken bones, sciatica, asthma, and many other conditions. Financial limitations have also been overcome.
Though my husband and I had reared a family of three children in Christian Science, had witnessed many healings, and had had evidences of God's bounty, which enabled us to maintain the children in colleges away from home all at the same time, still I was overwhelmed with a sense of loss and loneliness when my husband passed on and within a short period of time the children married. My usefulness seemed to have come to an end despite the fact that I kept busy by going to business and engaging in church activity.
When I started studying Christian Science I was buying a house and was without employment. I was without income or capital to pay mounting bills.
" Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" ( Ps. 107:8.
Through the application of Christian Science I have had remarkable proofs of God's care and goodness. Among the proofs has been the overcoming of sunstroke, a condition which over a period of years had plagued me to such an extent that when I was exposed to a small amount of heat, I would be stricken and unable to perform any kind of light household duties.
I value very highly the opportunity I had to attend a Christian Science Sunday School for seven years. The understanding gained there that God is a loving Father and companion gave me the faith to trust Him for the removal of subsequent cares.
In one of her poems Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader, writes (Poems, p. 4), Wait, and love more for every hate, and fear No ill,—since God is good, and loss is gain.
Until I was led into Christian Science by one who, like a good Samaritan, saw my need, had compassion on me, and supported me in my search for the truth, the Bible was literally and metaphorically a closed book to me. It is reason for gratitude to have had the treasures of the Bible unlocked and to have gained the wonderful assurance that God is man's Life.
