Testimonies of Healing

My first healing in Christian Science came after I had enrolled in the Sunday School. As a child, I had suffered from a complication of diseases.

I found Christian Science in a state penitentiary twenty-six years ago while serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. I had completed five years of the sentence when a lung condition developed which caused hemorrhages.

When I think that many years have passed since I received healings in Christian Science and that only now I am recording my testimony, I wonder why I have waited so long before committing my thoughts to paper. I was born with my feet twisted, and over a period of seven years I was taken frequently by my parents to the local branch of the cripples' guild for medical attention.

While serving in the Army, I was led to use Christian Science more than I ever had before. It all started when I was in a reception center waiting to be assigned to a camp for basic training.

Many years ago, when I was a girl scarcely in my teens, I witnessed a wonderful healing of my mother by Christian Science treatment. She was freed from distressing paralytic conditions to which she had become subject and developed into a strong, energetic, and capable woman.

For the multitude of blessings that have resulted from the study of Christian Science over many years, I wish to give thanks. Colds, congestions, fevers, rheumatic aches and pains, torn ligaments in the knee, a malignant growth, nervous exhaustion, and many other discordant conditions have yielded to the touch of divine Love and to an increasing understanding of the spiritual truths set forth in the Bible.

We read in Psalms ( 62:11 ), "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. " When I read for the first time the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, the passage quoted above became clear to me.

In Luke's Gospel ( 19:37 ) it is recorded that the multitude who followed Christ Jesus rejoiced and praised "God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen. " When some of the Pharisees called on the Master to rebuke the multitude, he said (verse 40) , "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

In Turning to Christian Science, I sought the Comforter which Christ Jesus promised. I was not seeking a physical healing, but as a result of my study, I was healed of a nervous breakdown.

The teachings of Christian Science have blessed me in all avenues of life since I started its study several years ago. My first healings have been staffs on which to lean.
