Testimonies of Healing

Although I was the offspring of Christian parents and grandparents, I myself was an agnostic and very unhappy. About thirty years ago I said to someone in our home, "I believe we are told about God as children are told about Santa Claus, and one day we shall be told that there is no God.

My introduction to Christian Science came one Sunday when we visited a Church of Christ, Scientist, and let our children attend the Sunday School as visitors. The following Sunday we asked the children where they wanted to go.

Christian Science came into my experience at a time when I was in a strange country without money or employment. This situation was all the more difficult because prior to that time I had been living in luxury, although without any religious convictions whatever.

While in my early teens I came to the conclusion that there was no God, so unreasonable and illogical were the concepts of Deity given me by well-meaning friends. To one I stated, "If there is a God, it will have to be proved to me before I accept it.

Christian Science was presented to my family when I was little more than a child and at a time of great unhappiness and difficulty in our home. After a period of their mocking and arguing while the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.

For some years I suffered from a spinal curvature, which often caused fatiguing pain but which never completely incapacitated me. After the birth of our third child, however, I twisted the spine and suffered a physical collapse.

One of the hymns in our Christian Science Hymnal reminds us ( No. 139 ), "Give of your heart's rich overflow.

I am very grateful to have been raised in a Christian Science home, where I was taught always to trust God to meet every need. In the year 1894 my father came into Christian Science with my grandfather, who was instantaneously healed of lameness and of the need of wearing glasses, although he had been told that he could never go without them.

Wearying of old theological beliefs and searching for a more satisfactory religion, my parents became students of Christian Science in my early childhood. Later my mother became a practitioner and with my father held the first Christian Science services in our community.

Since I have had the privilege of knowing about Christian Science my life has completely changed. The knowledge of this Science and its application have opened for me a door to mental and physical freedom.
