Testimonies of Healing
In 1934 I suffered for several months from a severe attack of pleurisy, which incapacitated me for work. On my way to call on a specialist I met a woman who was a Christian Science practitioner.
Christian Science came into my life about nine years ago when I was longing for greater spiritual satisfaction. Although I was busily engaged in the activities of an orthodox church, nothing seemed to satisfy that longing.
At one of the first Wednesday testimony meetings I attended in a Church of Christ, Scientist, I was startled to hear a woman say that through her study of Christian Science the Bible had become her daily companion and that whenever she had any decision to make she always turned to the Bible for guidance. While employed in an office in the north of England I was asked if I would like to go to South America with a friend who was returning to her work there.
Since beginning the study of Christian Science a number of years ago, I have experienced numerous physical healings. Each has been a step toward a fuller understanding of true being.
Through this testimony I wish to express an ever-increasing sense of love and gratitude to God for His goodness, to Christ Jesus for his demonstration and teaching of God's allness and loving care for His creation, and to Mary Baker Eddy for her consecrated life and works, through which she presented to the world the demonstrable Science of Christianity. Christian Science came to our family when I was very young.
" The kingdom of God is within you" ( Luke 17:21 ). That the discovery of God's reign of harmony is independent of place or condition has certainly been shown to me.
This testimony is given as an expression of my love for God and Christian Science. It has been my privilege to know this Science all my life.
I am increasingly grateful for Christian Science and for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as well as for all the avenues in which the truth is going out to meet the needs of the world today.
In Psalms we read ( 107:7 ). "He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
An overwhelming sense of gratitude for having been awakened to the great power of good in the Bible prompts this testimony. I had studied the Bible in an orthodox Sunday School from the time I was a child; but in my late teens I decided there was no proof that it meant more than any other book, for I did not feel convinced that God was anything more than a fable.
