
Testimonies of Healing
Since healing was reported to be a part of Christian Science, I stole away from home one Wednesday night, twenty years ago, to attend a testimony meeting. I was a devout Methodist, and had faith in the guidance of my heavenly Father in this matter.
It was not for physical healing that I turned to Christian Science, but rather for a way of life—something to turn to for guidance. From a human standpoint, my life was a very happy one, but always there were questions which could be answered only in Christian Science.
About thirteen years ago I heard for the first time of Christian Science, but I was young and lacking in spiritual discernment, and I soon forgot about it. About five years ago our home was very discordant.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I wish to give my testimony of the blessings received through the study and application of Christian Science. For the past thirteen years, my son, who is now nineteen years old, and I have relied wholly upon Christian Science to meet our every need.
It is my desire to express gratitude to Christian Science for the blessings it has brought me. I took up its study sixteen years ago for the healing of a stubborn skin disease.
For the many blessings and benefits I have experienced through studying and applying the teachings of Christian Science, I wish to express my sincere gratitude. I have learned to love Christian Science for the good it brings.
My husband, our four sons, and I have received many healings and blessings through Christian Science. A few years ago, I suddenly felt impelled to work for a son in Canada.
The last lines of one of our hymns express much better than I can how Christian Science came to me: "Thou leadest me by unsought ways, Thou turn'st my mourning into praise. " Truly, it was "by unsought ways," for I had no knowledge of Christian Science nor any desire to learn about it.
In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says ( pp. 476, 477 ), "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals.
Over five years ago I found myself in such a condition that I was unable to go on with my work. When I lay down I was overcome with a choking sensation which seemed to close my throat and prevent my breathing.
