Testimonies of Healing
My first knowledge of Christian Science came when I was a child, through my mother's healing of very severe headaches. At about the same time a friend of the family was healed of blindness.
I first heard of Christian Science in 1917, when I was in great need of help. I had been advised by a physician to submit to an operation for kidney trouble.
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes ( p. 1 ), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love.
I wish to bear witness to the healing power of Christian Science and to share the blessings which have come to me and mine, that others may learn to be loyal students of this blessed truth as given to us in Science and Health by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I became interested in Christian Science in 1914, through the healing of a member of our family of diabetes, after physicians had been unable to heal him.
I should like to express my gratitude for the blessings which have come to me since I began the study of Christian Science. It came to me in the darkest hour of my life, when a loved one had passed on, and it seemed necessary for me to lay hold of something that would satisfy my yearning to understand life and its ultimate aims.
Since healing was reported to be a part of Christian Science, I stole away from home one Wednesday night, twenty years ago, to attend a testimony meeting. I was a devout Methodist, and had faith in the guidance of my heavenly Father in this matter.
It was not for physical healing that I turned to Christian Science, but rather for a way of life—something to turn to for guidance. From a human standpoint, my life was a very happy one, but always there were questions which could be answered only in Christian Science.
About thirteen years ago I heard for the first time of Christian Science, but I was young and lacking in spiritual discernment, and I soon forgot about it. About five years ago our home was very discordant.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I wish to give my testimony of the blessings received through the study and application of Christian Science. For the past thirteen years, my son, who is now nineteen years old, and I have relied wholly upon Christian Science to meet our every need.
It is my desire to express gratitude to Christian Science for the blessings it has brought me. I took up its study sixteen years ago for the healing of a stubborn skin disease.
