Testimonies of Healing
I have long wished to express through our periodicals my gratitude for Christian Science and its revelation of the truth of being. I had taken a lively interest in the orthodox church of which I was a member, but the time came when it no longer satisfied me.
It is with joy that I give this testimony. For several years it has been my desire to take this step, but timidity about writing has held me back, and now I cannot put it off any longer.
It is difficult to tell in a short space of the transformation which Christian Science brings into one's life, and one's consequent gratitude to Mrs. Eddy as its Discoverer and Founder.
Many years ago I first attended a Christian Science service. Desire for a consistent explanation of the Scriptures was the motive which led me there.
We read in the Bible, in Psalms "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. " This verse might well have been applied to me at the time Christian Science was presented to me, for I was indeed in a horrible pit, steeped in the belief of materiality with its false pleasures and pains.
A number of years ago on Thanksgiving Day I read and pondered Mrs. Eddy's words on page 3 of Science and Health: "Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more.
I shall always hold in grateful remembrance the day Christian Science was introduced into my home by my small son, who had started to attend a Christian Science Sunday School with a school friend. One day, the two boys were exploring a river bed during a dry spell.
I have been healed of cancer, and would say to those who are suffering with an incurable disease, You can be healed through Christian Science. My healing came very slowly, for I was the victim of extreme fear, which seemed aggravated and prolonged by my being constantly reminded of this disease over the radio, in newspapers, and in magazines.
In the Bible we read, "Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. " Gratefully and reverently, I wish to express my joy for all God's tender mercies.
Like many others all over the world who are testifying to the healing power of Christian Science, I should like to add my testimony and express my gratitude to God and to Mary Baker Eddy for her inspired and faithful work in giving to the world a demonstrable Science, explaining in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the wonderful works wrought by Christ Jesus, and showing conclusively that the same power is available for everyone to demonstrate today. When I first heard of Christian Science, I was suffering from a form of chronic indigestion which forced me to live on a very strict diet.
